WOLF

The gray wolf, also known as the timber wolf, was considered to be extinct in Wisconsin in the 1960's. Since then they have been reintroduced to Wisconsin with the latest estimated count of 866 in 2016. The wolf is the largest in size of the wild dog family. They live in 'packs' which are groups of wolves that all live together and hunt. Their territory ranges between 20-80 square miles living in and near forests. Wolves hunt deer, rabbits, and other smaller mammals. They are a helpful role in helping with Wisconsin's rising populations of deer.
